St. Luke's Episcopal Church

We invite you
to come and visit us and
experience for yourself the
warmth of Christ's love
and our welcoming
Christian community in
Lindale, Texas.

We hope to
see you
Sunday!

St. Luke's Episcopal Church Welcomes You!

We are blessed to have visitors and realize you may have some questions
about what to expect during the Service. Some of our parishioners are
cradle Episcopalians; but many come to us from other religious backgrounds, including Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian and Lutheran. You may ask yourself questions like 'Are they friendly?,' 'Where do I sit?,' and 'Will they put a spotlight on me because I am new?' We ARE friendly, you may sit ANYWHERE, and no, no spotlights.

What should I expect on Sunday morning?

Just inside the main entrance, you'll find our welcome area which includes
information about the church, a current events board, and our greeters.
The greeters will happily assist you with questions as well as provide you
with the morning church bulletin. Please take a moment to sign the guest
book.

Straight through the entrance and Parish Hall is the sanctuary, or nave,
and again, you may sit anywhere.

Childcare and Youth Sunday School:

Childcare is provided for infants up to age two. Children, ages three and
up, meet in the Activity Room of the School. Greeters and the Sunday
School Director will be happy to assist you. All of our Sunday school
teachers, nursery workers and volunteers are certified graduates of the
Safeguarding God's Children training program. Your children will be safe
with us. Children return to the main service before Holy Communion.

The Service:

The service begins at 10:00 a.m. and is approximately an hour in length. As we consider ourselves a teaching church, the sermons usually focus on how
we can apply the teachings of the Bible to our daily lives. All baptized
Christians are invited to receive communion. Children and young adults
may request a blessing rather than wine and bread at the altar by simply
crossing their arms across their chest.

After the Service:

Please join us in fellowship immediately following the service.
Refreshments are provided by the ECW (Episcopal Church Women) so feel
free to fill your plate, grab a cup of coffee and pull up a chair! This is a
great time to discover more about St. Luke's ministries and opportunities that might appeal to you and your family.

The Great
Commission

"Go ye therefore,
and teach all
nations, baptizing
them in the name
of the Father and
the Son, and the
Holy Ghost;
teaching them to
observe all things
whatsoever I have
commanded you;
and, lo, I am with
you always even
unto the end of
the world, Amen."

Matthew 28:19-20

MORE ABOUT ST. LUKE'S. . .

Education:
St. Luke's Episcopal Church believes that in order to live the Word, we must first learn the Word. The Church places great emphasis on education. Our adult bible study classes are taught by members of the congregation with extensive education and training in Christian formation. Our Youth Sunday School is taught by a college instructor with a Master's Degree and features: a systematic study of the Bible, age-appropriate learning, small class sizes, leadership training, and a fun learning environment. The highly regarded St. Luke's Episcopal School offers a comprehensive curriculum for children ages 18 months through Kindergarten.

History:
St. Luke's Episcopal Church started with a letter to the local newspaper in 1990 asking for local Episcopalians to meet to discuss the possibility of establishing an Episcopal church in Lindale. Regular services began in 1991 and a priest in charge was named. In 1995 the Church purchased 12.5 acres on FM 849 for a permanent site for the Church. In 1997, plans for a new 7,700 square foot cruciform building were presented to the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and construction commenced shortly thereafter. St. Luke's was officially consecrated by Bishop Claude Payne on April 4, 1998.

You can learn more about the creeds, sacraments, and traditions of the Episcopal Church at the official website of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.
